Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, facing charges for the violent incident.

Originally charged of attempted murder but following the woman's death charges were upgraded to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting for witnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing grey athletic wear, black hat, trainers with a backpack.

Incident Location

The knife attack occurred near Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Eyewitness Reports

An area worker, who works nearby, described the emergency response after completing her shift at about 22:00 Friday night.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.

"A lot of my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.

"It makes me worried for my girlfriend," he said.

"She doesn't drive employed at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's terrible."
