England Golf Urgently Requests Public Funding for the year 2030 Women's Golf Showcase Hosting Proposal

The most recent European vs US women's golf contest held on European soil took place in Spain in 2023, while the upcoming edition set for the Netherlands in 2026.

Following Europe's recent Ryder Cup triumph, England Golf is urging the government to underwrite its bid to organize the premier women's golf event in the country for the very first occasion.

This elite competition pitting the leading female golfers of Europe and the United States has been held twice in Scotland and in Wales yet never in England. A bid has been prepared to hold it at the Grove venue within Hertfordshire eight years from now.

Yet planners are seeking £30m to back this proposal and currently only £10m has been secured. England Golf is urgently seeking Treasury support to cover the funding gap.

Financial Needs and Deadline

Discussions to obtain Treasury backing began earlier this year however a resolution on whether it will be forthcoming is urgently needed. The rights for the 2030 match are held by the International Management Group who want a resolution within the current month.

Per the proposal papers, England Golf maintains that winning the hosting rights "provides substantial returns for the country".

"We are convinced at this moment it's fitting that the Solheim Cup should be hosted on English soil," declared the head of the golf association.

He added: "England has developed multiple athletes over time and still do today, such as Charley Hull, national team members, or Lottie Woad."

To organize the men's tournament in Europe would cost significant investment but for the women's event it is around £30m.

"We are seeking circa £20m from the government to guarantee it," the representative stated.

"And that's supplementing already a significant investment from The Grove and England Golf as well as additional sponsors we intend to invest."

Time Sensitivity

The representative refused to say that talks have stalled, but confirmed: "Certainly there exists a challenge presently regarding whether or not the government can fund events like this."

"They have shown, from from a world athletics perspective, or women's sports events, that they are willing to provide funding for selected competitions."

"In my opinion if we obtain a positive answer in the coming weeks, we would be able to obtain the hosting rights to be staged in England."
